Inspiration

Stockholm to Zürich

by Trib

At Trib, we match dream talent (and teams) with their dream opportunities, enabling both organizations and individuals to evolve – within Sweden and beyond. We are so thrilled to have made another dream match that sends one of our awesome candidates to one of the world’s most desirable cities (Zurich, Switzerland) to work for a truly global organization: EF Education First.

When I flew down to Zurich for an in-person meeting, I felt like an unmysterious international man of mystery haha!

Max Flick, UI Designer

We had the chance to sit down with Max just days before he was set to pack his (new) bags for Zurich to ask him about his experience in the recruitment process and his preparations for moving to a new country.

What initially attracted you to the UI Designer role at EF in Switzerland?
I saw [Sarah Black‘s] post on LinkedIn and it felt so natural to send her a message instead of just applying. I was drawn to everything about the role, and I also have a friend who has been working at EF for over 6 years who speaks highly of the company and all the cool side projects and initiatives they’re involved in. Plus, Zurich feels like the perfect place to live.

How did the recruitment process feel?
It was my first time applying for an international job, but the process felt easy and natural. I got a great feeling about everyone at EF from the very beginning, and the relaxed process made me feel comfortable.

What made you sure about joining EF?
Definitely the people; I got such a good vibe from everyone I met in the process! The fact that I would be working with a product that is all about adventure was a big factor as well. And finally, EF is at the beginning of a total remake of all their digital and printed designs, which is always a lovely challenge!

How are you preparing for your move to Switzerland?
My wife has been preparing far more than I have, haha. But I bought a new suitcase! And thankfully EF has arranged a temporary apartment for me to stay in when I start, which is just a 5 minute walk from the office.

What are you looking forward to the most about living and working in Switzerland?
I’m looking forward to feeling like a tourist (in a good way), and I’m excited to have friends and family come to visit.

How do you plan to adjust to a new country and culture?
I’ve been using Duolingo to brush up on my German! In general, I think it’s important to be open, friendly, and ask questions and show an interest in others.

What’s the first thing you plan to do once you arrive in Switzerland?
I plan to pick up running again as a great way to see the city and explore.

Are there any Swiss dishes you’re looking forward to trying?
I already love fondue, but I’m also excited to try new things!

What are you most excited about experiencing as part of your new job in Switzerland?
I’m excited about living in a new country for the first time. I have spent a couple of months in Berlin in the past and also lived in Gothenburg for three years. I remember the feeling when I was heading home [to Stockholm] for Christmas, messaging my friends, planning to meet up. It’s so nice to miss Stockholm and not take it for granted. I’m looking forward to that feeling again.

Sound cool? Join EF!

Connecting our beloved network with their dream opportunities is the best part of what we do, and we couldn’t be happier for Max as he sets off on his new adventure. Does moving to Zurich and working for EF sound like a dream to you too? We have more open roles!
